Movie Review: The Batman (2022)
Robert Pattinson has entered the DC Universe as the newest take on… Batman.
As someone who is less familiar with DC Comics and the Batman story, I was pleased to remain so captivated by the mystery, the twists and turns, and the plot line of The Batman. This dark movie (both lighting- and plot-wise) did a great job of filling in holes for newcomers while teasing and satisfying the die-hard fans of this ongoing tale of vengeance.
This film included moments that made your skin crawl and your spine tingle with the ever so eerie Riddler and the devastatingly corrupt police force in the city of Gotham. Pattinson did a great job portraying the stoic hero who’s very name makes any villain shudder.
Hopefully this comment doesn’t make me sound like too much of a newbie but, I was so interested to see a hero portrayed in such a frightening and dark light. Being more familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am much more used to seeing the innocent bystanders of New York City cheering and comforted at the sight of Iron Man or Captain America. Instead, we heard no sighs of relief or shouts for joy when Batman came on the scene. We only saw vandals, thieves, and murderers trembling in the presence of vengeance himself and abandoning all hope of accomplishing their wrongdoings.
The incredible, feisty Catwoman (portrayed by Zoë Kravitz) brought a fresh perspective to the stereotypical cat costume often associated with her name. To see an empowered woman with a purpose in the grander scheme of things is always refreshing and I believe this film shed the proper light on the essence of Catwoman.
I left the theatre with that feeling of uneasiness that any good thriller/action film provides. Though I know so little about the world this came from, I feel like I’ve been a part of film history after watching The Batman.
